The new 423 series M16 product is introduced in a new small size version. Excellent performance in small spaces and harsh and severe application environments. Thread locking, with shielding ring, meets IP67 requirements when mating, suitable for typical interference-prone industrial environments.
Binder, as one of the leading suppliers of industrial circular connectors, has launched the 423 series small size version: the small size M16 circular connector has a total length of about 47mm. Products with 2-19 cores and IP67 requirements for mating will be released soon. Both solder wire and crimp wire versions are available in small form factor, shielded plugs and receptacles, and both have cable clamps. Wire gauge ranges from 0.14mm2 (AWG26) to 1 mm2 (AWG18) based on the number of cores and wiring method. Its rated voltage and current are 32V-250V and 3A-7A respectively. In order to ensure the flexibility in actual use, the diameter of the cable outlet is 4.1mm-7.8mm.
Developed for demanding test and measurement and automation technology
The target applications for the small form factor version of the 423 series mainly include test and measurement applications, as well as automation technology limited by installation conditions. In particular, precision instruments that must provide accurate measurement results in confined and noisy environments, thanks on the one hand to the particularly compact design of the connectors. On the other hand, the possibility of electromagnetic shielding is essential to prevent interfering signals from adjacent electronic circuits from impairing the inspection or transmission of measuring equipment.
The stated goal of Binder's product designers was to develop the new M16 product, using as many standard parts as possible. Despite the specified degree of protection, in order to achieve IP67, they still need to integrate additional lathe parts. "Through focused development, we've managed to build the same quality in a smaller form factor," Product Manager Sascha Doebel commented on the success of the new development.
Background of the M16: From traditional audio to 5G and the Industrial Internet of Things
Since its introduction in audio technology more than 50 years ago, the M16 has proven itself in a wide range of applications: flexible termination, assembly and installation; primarily for connecting sensors and other field devices in indoor applications.

5G mobile communication is one of the innovative application areas of Binder M16 connectors: AISG (Antenna Interface Standards Group) compliant Binder 423 series products are used to connect devices in the antenna lines of network operators (Antenna Line Devices, ALDs). Based on customer demand, Binder is currently launching a smaller version of this product range.
10 Solder and 5 Crimp Pinhole Products - Features
423 series M16 shieldable small size products have 10 soldered and 5 crimped pin and socket products. Corresponding to different numbers of cores, the number of insertion and removal is designed to be more than 500 times.
Large wire gauge ratings for soldered products are 0.75 mm2 (AWG 18) with 2 to 8 cores and 0.25 mm2 (AWG 24) for 12 to 19 core connectors. The rated voltages are 32 V and 150 V, depending on the number of cores, and the rated pulse voltages are 500 V and 1.500 V, respectively. Current ratings range from 3A to 7A at 40°C. All soldered products are equipped with brass pins and bronze sockets and have an operating temperature of -30°C-95°C. Housing and threadlock are made of nickel-plated brass.
The crimp products are suitable for wire gauges of 0.14-1.0 mm2 (AWG 18-AWG 26) (4-6 cores) and 0.14-0.75 mm2 (AWG 20-AWG 26) (7-8 cores). The rated voltage is 32V and 150V respectively, the rated impulse voltage is 500V and 1500V respectively, and the rated current is 5A and 6A respectively. The operating temperature of the crimped connector is -40°C-100°C. As with the welded product, the housing and threadlock are made of nickel-plated brass.
